Task 7

Task 7 will develop a dialogue and foster linkages between the scientific community, policy makers and end-users within the context of IMPECAF. A bottom-up approach will be followed by means of stakeholder meetings to understand their information needs and better design the tools to be developed during the project. This task will rely on the communication bridge made between Luis Peres de Sousa from IPBeja and two Agriculture Associations (Associação de Agricultores do Sul/ACOS and AABA) and on the connection to a Forest association/company.

The project IMPECAF includes a plan for the dissemination of results and promotion and divulgation of the scientific outcomes which includes the organization of two workshops. The first one will take place on the second year of the project and will be held at the IPBeja installations. The main aim of this first workshop is to disclose the preliminary results to the community and also promote the knowledge shift between the scientific community and all the levels of possible end-users. This action will focus on the key sectors and will alert possible future users for the potential of employing a risk analysis tool to prepare for their decision-taking processes, and also to general community as to the impacts of extreme events on the agrarian and forestry economic sectors. The final workshop to disseminate the main results will be hosted at the IPMA and open to the research community as well as to society. This forum will constitute an excellent opportunity for the research community to comment on scientific results and recommendations on socioeconomic impacts, risk and vulnerability assessment.
A channel for discussion and communication is intended in this task to have the appropriateness of tools to meet local and regional requirements and will assess the current status of HDE risk management. This will help in the development of appropriate plans of measures for HDE mitigation in the forest and agriculture sectors, both prior and during HDE occurrence. A bottom-up approach will be followed to ensure stakeholder involvement from the start of the project, and also after completion of the project.

The knowledge generated in the project will be translated into layperson language to be accessible to the public. A newsletter will be available from the project?s website to inform about relevant news concerning IMPECAF, the evolution of the project and its main outcomes, while the IMPECAF final conference will present the major results of the project to the scientific community.
